Healthtech is bouncing back and AI is leading the charge

Healthtech is bouncing back and AI is leading the charge

After a period of correction, global healthtech investment is showing strong signs of recovery, and a fundamental shift is underway.

The latest 4YFN × Dealroom.co Healthtech Data Capsule reveals a sector that is not just rebounding but being reshaped. From the rise of AI-driven innovation to a new generation of high-growth startups, healthtech is entering a decisive new phase.

A market on the rebound

Global venture capital investment in health companies is on track to reach $82 billion in 2026, based on year-to-date trends.

This suggests a clear recovery trajectory for the sector, signalling renewed confidence from investors and a strong pipeline of innovation ready to scale.

AI is redefining healthtech

One of the clearest insights: AI is no longer a niche within healthtech, it’s becoming a core driver. AI-enabled companies are projected to account for 31% of global health VC funding in 2026, up from just 2% in 2010

This dramatic shift highlights a structural transformation in how healthcare solutions are being built:

  • Faster drug discovery
  • Smarter diagnostics
  • More efficient clinical workflows

Inside the 4YFN Health tech ecosystem

The 4YFN26 Health cohort offers a snapshot of where this transformation is happening in real time:

  • 156 health exhibitors
  • 40 companies at the intersection of health and AI
  • 206 funding rounds
  • €168M in VC raised
  • €850M combined company value

Together, they reflect a highly active and growing ecosystem, where early-stage innovation is rapidly translating into investment and scale.

This innovation does not happen in isolation. 4YFN is proud to join forces with institutions like Biocat, which support startups along their journey, and organisations like CSC, which help link healthtech innovators with hospitals, clinics and medical centres.

The investors shaping the space

The data capsule also highlights the investors most actively backing this wave of innovation.

Leading the way is EIT Health, participating in 43 funding rounds, far ahead of other players in the ecosystem. Universities, research institutions, and specialised venture funds also play a key role, reinforcing the deep connection between science, research, and startup growth in healthcare.

A new generation of breakout companies

At the centre of this shift are startups pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

One standout example is Biorce, a Barcelona-based deeptech company leveraging AI to transform clinical trials. Biorce is the 4YFN26 Awards Winner. Its platform is designed to give researchers fast, universal access to trial data with the aim of accelerating drug development and reducing costs.

In just over a year:

  • It has raised $61.4M across three rounds
  • Grown its team from 13 to 111 people
  • Achieved a top-tier Dealroom momentum score

Biorce’s trajectory reflects a broader trend: healthtech startups are scaling faster, attracting global capital, and tackling some of the industry’s biggest challenges with AI-first approaches.

Why this matters now

What emerges from the data is not just a recovery story but a shift in how value is created in healthcare

  • Capital is returning
  • AI is accelerating innovation
  • Ecosystems like 4YFN are acting as catalysts

For investors, corporates, and founders, this marks a critical moment to engage with the next wave of healthtech. Dive deeper into the data, trends, and companies shaping the future of healthtech in the full 4YFN × Dealroom Healthtech Data Capsule.
