Prof. Ángeles Vázquez-Castro is Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and Senior Researcher at the Centre for Space Studies and Research, part of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC). She is a founding member of the European Space Agency (ESA)-funded Network of Experts in Satellite Communications (SatNEx) and a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the IEEE Information Theory Society.
Dr. Vázquez-Castro is a leading expert in space communications and quantum cryptography, with extensive experience in the design of secure space systems, including quantum protocol design and information-theoretic security metrics, with particular emphasis on space-based and cislunar applications.
She brings a unique perspective on the full innovation lifecycle, from fundamental research to standardization, industrial deployment, and global scaling. Her work includes patented quantum technologies transferred to industry through ID Quantique—recently acquired by the US-based quantum company ION-Q, listed on the New York Stock Exchange—providing a concrete example of how academic research translates into real-world quantum technologies at global scale.
She is the author of over 150 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
