Description

 Dr. Miguel Ángel Armengol de la Hoz is the head of the Big Data - PMC Department at the Andalusian Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs and an affiliated researcher at the Laboratory for Computational Physiology - Critical Data at MIT. He specializes in promoting, integrating, managing, and utilizing databases from electronic medical records through the implementation of a distributed open collaboration philosophy and the use of advanced analytics and machine learning/AI methodologies. With a background in telecommunications engineering, he holds a PhD in biomedical engineering. During his doctoral studies, which took place in Boston over 4 years, he worked as a data scientist for intensive care patients at MIT's Laboratory for Computational Physiology - Critical Data. He was also sponsored by Harvard Medical School where he participated in data-related projects addressing unmet clinical needs in the fields of anesthesia, health economics, and cardiology.He has been involved in organizing collaborative data science events across Asia, South America, North America, and Europe. He has made significant contributions in the form of more than twenty scientific articles in high-impact journals on open data, AI, and data science applied to medical practice. With a highly multidisciplinary profile, he has participated in over 50 health technology projects in collaboration with clinicians. He has also collaborated as a lecturer at prestigious international institutions such as MIT and Harvard Medical School, in Spain he has participated as lecturer at the Complutense University of Madrid, Universidad de Granada, and the Carlos III Institute for Health Research. Additionally, he has served as a speaker, mentor, and/or jury member at clinical data events at Yale University, New York University, and the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, among others.
