Dr. Carles Puente is a co-founder at Fractus Antennas S.L. where he is in charge of innovation management and a co-inventor of Virtual Antenna, the technology that enables IoT and Mobile devices to embed a tiny chip antenna component to deliver full mobile connectivity. As a co-founder and former CTO of Fractus S.A., he developed a leading antenna technology and patent asset which was massively adopted by the mobile industry worldwide. Carles is a professor at BarcelonaTech (UPC) and has taught a number of graduate course on technology and patent management at Penn-Wharton, ESADE Business School and CEIPI.
He was an invited speaker in forums including the IPBC and AIPPI (2015), LES (2015, 2012), the Mobile World Congress (2007), the REE by Stanford University (2007) and the EVCA (2001). He and his team has been nominated to the to the European Inventor Award (EPO, 2014), named Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum (2005) and awarded the IST Grand Prize by the European Commission (1998). He is an inventor in 145 patents and co-author in 150 scientific papers. He holds a PhD from BarcelonaTech, a MSc from the University of Illinois (UIUC) and a BSEE from BarcelonaTech.
