Azita Arvani has over 20 years of progressive management, business development and P&L experience across high-tech sectors, including: mobile & wireless, information and communications technologies, software and services, and handheld devices.
As the Head of Innovation Partner & Venture Management, Azita leads Nokia’s leading edge global organization to leverage external innovation for driving growth and optimizing internal R&D serving five Nokia business groups and internal functions. The focus is on external innovations in technology, process and business model and creating friction-less ways of co-creating with third parties.
Before Azita worked as the Head of Innovation Partnering & Ecosystem Ventures – collaborating with disruptive innovators – primarily startups – by identifying, evaluating, and managing partnering and acquisition initiatives in new and emerging telecom domains.
Prior to that, Azita was Head of Partnering and Alliances where she led the global partnering team to create sustainable and significant value with strategic partners. She expanded the team charter to focus on innovation themes and collaborating with agile start-ups, in addition to cultivating partnerships with established companies on select profitable growth areas. She works closely with R&D, product, delivery, and sales organizations to ideate and develop new partnerships and work with product and portfolio teams to implement them.
Prior to that, she was Head of Innovation Strategy at Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) where she created the mission for Innovation Center in Silicon Valley and the Innovation team, developed and implemented agile strategies for identifying and commercializing innovations with focus on rapid experimentation, partnerships and fast time to market. She developed an ecosystem of partners with complementary offerings to enable NSN to offer end-to-end solutions.
Formerly, as Principal and Founder of Arvani Group Strategy Consulting, she worked in close collaboration with global companies and investors within mobile and wireless markets where she skillfully identified and helped create profitable businesses. Representative clients include: DOCOMO (Leading global mobile carrier), Microsoft, Otto Group (2nd online e-tailer after Amazon), PalmSource/Access, Casio, Shamrock, FBR Capital, Swedish Trade Council, and many new multimedia and technology ventures. Select initiatives include: mobile content, mobile device strategies, smartphone platforms, mobile health, mobile broadband, and mobile payments.
Prior to consulting, Azita led Strategy and Business Development for ActiveSky. ActiveSky is a pioneer in developing interactive rich media technologies for mobile applications. In that role, she spearheaded a number of outstanding partnerships and strategy formulations with major companies, including: content providers, micro-browser vendors, wireless infrastructure companies, mobile carriers, and handheld device manufacturers in the US, Europe and Asia. In addition, she participated as a key member of company’s successful Series B fund raising activity, which generated $22 million in capital during the challenging third quarter of 2000.
Azita has previously held senior positions with Xerox Corporation. As Director of Corporate Business Strategy in Palo Alto, CA, she focused the marketing and business development of the spin-off that became ContentGuard, an enabler of Digital Rights Management for Web-distributed content. She also served as Director of Corporate Business Strategy at company headquarters in Stamford, CT. There, she was an advisor to the CEO and his senior team on planning and implementing corporate initiatives. Azita led the multi-disciplinary corporate initiative to develop a market-centric architecture for future-generation network-connected solutions.
Azita was one of a select few in the company to become the Technical Advisor to Xerox’ Senior Vice President of Research and Development, with responsibilities for research centers, including Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) and others throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. In that role, she helped design and implement key channels to commercialize innovative R&D projects.
Azita is a frequent speaker and moderator at major conferences and tradeshows. These include: Mobile World Congress, CTIA Wireless, Jupiter Media, Frost & Sullivan Mobile and Wireless Enterprise, IBF Mobile and Wireless Investing Summit, and USC Global Mobility. She has been quoted in New York Times, Forbes, Washington Post, Financial Week, MSNBC, CNN, Yahoo Finance, IEEE Computer Society, InformationWeek, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and CIO update, among others.
Azita is on the board of directors of the Tennant Company (NYSE: TNC).
She holds an MS in Management from Stanford University (Sloan Fellow), an MS in Computer Science (Honors) from the University of Southern California and a BS in Math/Computer Science (Magna cum Laude) from UCLA.
