We have grown from a team of 9 to more than 30!

In previous editions, a local Barcelona-born startup, King of App has exhibited with us and so we wanted to find out from them if being an exhibitor at 4YFN has made a real difference to their business over the years. Here is what they had to say:

Tell us a bit about your startup:

King of App was inspired by the unexpected discovery of a niche in the market. In fact, 3 years ago we were an advertising agency and we had to deal with a big problem: every time that we had to make an estimated quotation for an app development, all of our customers rejected the projects because they were too expensive.

A further investigation lead to the discovery that there was not an Open Source tool developed for mobile applications in the market that would give the opportunity to any web professional to access the code, add various modules and plugins and modify it according to their preferences. The market needed a Content Management System platform that would allow everybody to create a customised application without the need for technical knowledge and that’s how José Vicente Sogorb and I created King of App.

The innovative technology took 2 years to be developed, but has revolutionised the way applications are made.

Last summer, King of App took part in the European programme: Horizonte 2020 and successfully won a €2 million investment as one of the most disruptive and ground-breaking technologies on the European horizon.”

How has your exhibitor experience been with 4YFN?

“Thanks to our participation during the 2014 edition of 4YFN Barcelona, an agency called Ateknea contacted us with the proposal of a partnership for the programme, Horizonte 2020. It was a key collaboration for our company and it brought significant positive changes, giving us the opportunity to grow from a team of 9 people to more than 30, and the opportunity to open another office in New York.

The 2015 edition also played an important role in our development because some of the contacts we made there became investors and partners later on.”

Any tips for startups that are wishing to exhibit this year?

“Stay open-minded, curious, ambitious and use every opportunity for networking and creating relationships because you never know who can change your life or revolutionise your startup.

MWC and 4YFN are two events that can provide amazing support for your business and can speed up the development to an impressive level. Being attentive to every aspect without being judgemental is also a key element to change the rules of the game.
Working hard before 4YFN is a key element in order to reap the full benefits, such as making contacts and appointments with potential partners prior to the event.”
So what are your goals for 2017?

“During the second quarter of 2017, King of App will open another office in New York with the purpose of initialising operations with the USA, which represents more than 60% of our market. Since our costs of development and structure have been covered by the funding received from H2020, we just opened a second round of €2 million. The resources will be used to further develop the platform and to support the marketing and commercial launch of the company in the new American market, as well as our global one.

The second quarter of 2017 will be also marked by the opening of a new online school to encourage the creation of apps, with the idea that all classes will exclude the enrolment costs if the student passes the level of certification required. Our main goal is not for financial benefit, but to make the community bigger and more powerful.”

4YFN Barcelona 2017 takes place in Barcelona from 27 February – 1 March.

All of our exhibitor space is now sold out, however if you would like to attend as a visitor, you can buy your ticket here.
