Esther Mateo trained as an industrial engineer at the University of Seville, and spent her early career leading national and international design and construction projects in private sector transportation businesses, with experience in Aeronautics, naval and automotive industries. As part of her responsibilities. Ms Mateo led large teams in high profile projects.
Since 2010, she has worked within ADIF: the Spanish public sector body responsible for managing rail infrastructure, with a range of different positions, mainly related to projects, works, commissioning, risk control, and maintenance of different disciplines, including track quality, energy, signalling and telecommunications).
Since September 2018, she has been Director General of Security, Processes, and Corporate Systems, with strategic responsibility for all aspects of security across the organisation. Among other responsibilities, this role covers digital systems and transformation, cybersecurity, train safety, personnel and asset security.
As part of her role, Ms Mateo leads projects that are transformational and integrated, cutting across all areas of the business. These include:
- Adif's Digital Transformation Plan, which aims to digitize the organization and transform citizen service.
- Comprehensive cybersecurity plan.
- Modernization project for maintenance and asset management, to improve decision-making in asset replacement and investment.
- Safety Culture Plan led by Adif in Europe.
In addition, she has been senior security adviser to leading sustainable mobility business, INECO since 2018. She is also Vice President of CIONET, the international network of Technology Leaders, and is a member of the Cyberleadership Advisory Council.
